Prince Live in Montreal at the Theatre Maisonneuve at Place des Arts, Monday March 21, 2016

My story starts on Wednesday evening, March 16th around dinner time. As I have returned home from work and have finished eating my dinner, I am casually browsing through Facebook on my phone as I always do. Then it happens! It has happened like this before and it is the most exhilarating feeling that can be imagined. My heart stops as I see a post that says the next stop on Prince’s Piano & Microphone Tour is Montreal!!! I can’t believe me eyes! I feel that rush of energy inside of me and I start freaking out.

I start shouting out to my husband that Prince is coming OMG!!! He doesn’t really care because he is not a fan but I have dragged him on all of my adventures so he knows that he is going to have to go and support me! I quickly begin scrambling for more information, are there tickets for sale yet? When do they go on sale? Where do I buy them? Too many questions and not very much information to be found. Apparently the way it happened was that Prince’s official twitter tweeted that there would be “PIANO AND A MICROPHONE TOUR NEWS COMING LATER 2DAY!!!” earlier on in the day and then tweeted later “PRINCE fans in MONTREAL.....U got next!!” Along with a tour poster saying that Prince would be playing his Piano & Microphone tour in Montreal at the Place des Arts Theatre Maisonneuve on Monday March 21. And then that was it for the rest on Wednesday night!!! I kept searching and refreshing and looking on the Place des Arts website, but nothing! Then in the evening around 9:30pm I refreshed the Facebook page of Place des Arts and there was finally official word. It was a new tour picture of Prince and it said:

“Prince
Théâtre Maisonneuve
21 mars 2016
Tous les détails dès jeudi matin.
On vous souhaite une excellente nuit!”

And then I had no choice but to wait until the next morning for the rest of the information. I went to sleep (couldn’t stop tossing and turning and worrying about the concert) and hoped that I would be able to get tickets because I had seen that the venue was very small and had only a 1500 person capacity!!! There are many more people in Montreal than 1500!!!

Thursday morning I woke up to go to work and kept checking up on all the sources again but nothing new had been added. Finally a few hours later they had updated their post on the Facebook Place des Arts page to say the details that the tickets would go on sale on Friday at 12:00 noon and that there would not be one show but two!!! Well that was great news so now at least there were more chances and more spaces. A show at 7pm and another at 10pm. Right off I knew I would want to be greedy and go to both shows! I had vowed after I had seen him my first time that I would use every possible opportunity to see him, and I would try my best! But the ticket prices were very high. I asked my husband what he thought, if he really wanted to go or should I go alone? There was also the chance of a club after party which meant we would be staying out all night into the early hours of the morning. I did not work the next day but he did. He immediately said that I could not go alone and that he had to accompany me so that I would be safe! Intriguing! Well, it was settled! So now I could kind of relax for one more day. Again that night I tossed and turned and wished that I would be able to get tickets… but there was nothing left to do except wait!

Friday morning I woke and went to work again and waited patiently for noon to come! I had made a game plan with my helpful coworker that she would help me get tickets with her iPad and we would try at the same time and then it would help increase my chances. I knew that this could go either way, it could either sell out in minutes like it has in other locations in the world, or the high ticket prices would turn the Montreal people off and it wouldn’t sell out quickly at all… but who knew how it would go and I did not want to take any chances.

Noon began approaching and I started refreshing the ticketing website, wondering if they would start the sale at noon on the dot or a bit earlier like some sales I have seen before. The clock struck 12:00 and the sale opened and right away I nabbed some great seats and then proceeded to check out but it was very difficult on a small phone rather than a computer and also the site seemed to be slow because of the high volume of traffic. My coworker nabbed be some great seats for the other show and the both of us quickly raced to enter our information in before the timer ran out. It had given us a fair 10 minutes to do our transaction but with slow servers and lag there was lots of time wasted. Finally my coworker completed her transaction!!! So I would definitely be attending the 7:00pm show!!! But then I kept trying to complete mine and it was frustration because time was ticking and all I had to do was push the final button but I was pressing it countless times and there was no response from the server! There was about 2 minutes left before I would lose my amazing seats and I was panicking. I restarted entering my information and again it was down to clicking the final button. I had about 10 seconds remaining and I was quivering. Just as the clock counted down it went through and thanked me for my purchase! I got them!!! Really? I couldn’t believe it! I was shaking from the adrenaline rush and checked my emails for the confirmation. It was there! It still didn’t seem real to me! I was happy but still thought it was too good to be true! It took a little while for me to accept that it was true and that I would be going to both shows!!!

I made it through the weekend in a breeze, I was glad that Prince’s style is to announce these last minute concerts, I couldn’t imagine waiting months for this! On Sunday evening I found a post on Facebook stating that there would be an official Prince after party at a club called Muzique downtown! Well this is the icing on the cake and the tidbit of information I had been looking forward to! One of my best experiences was when after I had attended Prince’s Bell Centre show in 2011 I had heard the rumor that there would be an after party at a club called Newtown. I had gone just on the rumor and it ended up being a blast, seeing Prince up close and personal in a small atmosphere doing a jam session 20 feet away from me! We had partied all night until 4am! I needed to relive this experience, it was certain. And again I have to stay true to my vow of using every opportunity possible to see Prince! There were very few details about the after party but later on Facebook the venue had answered someone’s question on pricing saying the cover charge would be $25 if there was no performance and $50 with performance… hmmm interesting, no guarantees of course!

Well the game was set. Monday I worked very hard all day like a dog! I was super busy at work and really scrambling around. Towards the end of the day it quieted down and I finished up, got ready, my husband arrived to meet me at work and we began our drive into downtown Montreal. I wasn’t sure if there would be heavy rush hour traffic but it was a pretty simple drive after all. We arrived at the venue, parked the car and the proceeded to collect our first set of tickets and wristbands for the first show at 7pm. After we ascended to the Theatre Maisonneuve and I saw the small souvenir stand. I had originally wanted to buy the new Prince CD which came out a while ago but is not being sold in stores, only at shows. I was disappointed to see that they were not selling the CD and I ended up not buying anything even though I had wanted to buy the tour book or maybe a poster. But I have enough posters and the tour book was very expensive and I didn’t really want to carry around all this stuff all night so I did not get anything (which I think I really regret now… boooo). We waited to enter to our seating for a while and then they finally allowed everyone in and we descended to our seats down at the front! I got “first row” A tickets which were amazing but it was not the real first row. It was disappointing that there were three rows (AA BB CC) in the front that were not even available to the sale so that is why I received A tickets which was the first normal row. Can’t complain though. Not sure who the seats in the special rows were for, maybe contest winners or big company people. They didn’t look like any special people to me but it’s a shame that those first 3 rows were not available to the public to purchase. Still, we had amazing seats! A 14 & 16 which were slightly to the right side, which would give a great view of Prince’s hands playing his piano.

We entered and saw how close we were to the stage. Prince’s funky purple piano sat centre stage facing the left side. There were some faux candelabras on the sides and that was about it in terms of decor. Very, very simple and straightforward! It would just be him, his piano and microphone, just as advertised. It would be interesting to see him alone in a different setting. He has always really had some sort of surrounding band or entourage in the background. I wondered how the arrangement of a song would sound stripped down from all synthesizers and instruments and just played on a piano. We waited for a little while and the crowd grew with anticipation, they would begin cheering and clapping every so often in an attempt to lure Prince out from behind the curtain.

Finally the background lit up in a purple hue and the silhouette of Prince appeared in all afro goodness! The curtain lifted and he emerged to cheers and applause and began to wave and bow to the crowd. He did a little walk around and waved and said hello to the crowd. Then he went over to his piano bench and kneeled down and offered a pre show prayer in front of the crowd who were brimming with respect for him. After he finished his prayer, he took his place at the piano and began to talk using a voice altering effect making him sound like a robot or something. Then he went right into “Big City” and “Girl” and quickly impressed with the ability to make a cohesive song with different tones and sounds all using a piano on his own. I was pleased to be sitting on the side where I could see his hands playing the piano and seeing the way in which he effortlessly creates music and a beat with his own two hands! Rather that only piano ballads on the piano like most people play, he could make a whole beat of a song! Very nice to see that point of view, but at the same time his back was to us most of a time and I like to see his face too, but I knew that the next show we would be on the other side so I could not complain!

He proceeded to play some slower ballads like “Look at Me, Look at U” and “A Case of You”. Then fired it up with a special arrangement of “U Got The Look”. Then “The Question of U” “Elephants & Flowers” “I Feel For U”.

Then the crowd stood up to dance to “Controversy” Shouting out the word when it would come out in the song! I liked to sing along a bit when it was required! (When he would ask us to sing, otherwise I didn’t want to alienate anyone!). Then it went into “I Would Die 4 U” & “Baby I’m A Star”.

He asked us to please sit down and did a mash up of “Little Red Corvette / Dirty Mind” Then another mashup “The Ballad of Dorothy Parker / 4”. “Take Me With U”.

I was so shocked and impressed to hear him sing “I Love U In Me” a very dirty, sexually implicit song that I did not think he would every sing again, being that he is not very vulgar anymore but I guess the rule is no swearing or bad words but suggestive content is perfectly fine? I am not complaining! I thought it was such a treat to hear this song sung live, so sexy and enticing!!!

Then there was the famous “Raspberry Beret” then “Starfish & Coffee” and “Paisley Park”. After a round of applause he got up and exited the stage. But we knew it was not over!!! We cheered and clapped and screamed for him to come back and then he did! He sat back down at the piano and began “How Come U Don’t Call Me Anymore” a mash up of “Waiting in Vain / If I Was Ur Girlfriend”, “1000 X’s & O’s”, “Somewhere Here On Earth”, “Diamonds & Pearls”.

Then he played on of my favorites “The Beautiful Ones” and I was so happy because it is only of my favorite scenes in Purple Rain when he is singing this song to Apollonia in the club with such emotion and I always wanted to see this myself live, obviously this isn’t a movie so he didn’t sing it exactly the same but it was still a wish come true to hear him belting and wailing it out in his famous way. I was pretending that he was directing the song towards me, haha. Then he struck up “Purple Rain” and the crowd was very pleased.

Again, he left and disappeared until the crowds’ cheers brought him back for the last time. He played one of my favorites, “Kiss” and everyone was singing along and having a great time. Then “New Position”, “Purple Music” and “Free Urself” and then with that he thanked us a bid us good night and was gone!!! What a blast!!! We all filed out of the theatre and as we were walking out, what do I see??? They are handing out the CD albums that I wanted to buy to everyone who attended the show!!! I was so happy! I got one, my husband got one, I was pleased. We then proceeded to go back to where we began and waited in line to pick up our second show tickets and bracelets. After a small wait we went back up to the theatre and started our evening all over again! After a wait they let us into the theatre again and we found our seats which were still in the A row but this time on the opposite side. Seats A 9 & 11 more the left side of the stage although I think my seat was almost dead centre stage! I liked this view too because I could see his front on and see his face! I also liked the other view too, seeing his hands, and it was great that I got se experience both views because they were both equally important together.

The vibe from the second group of people was different than the first set of people. The first set, although they loved standing for Prince and shouting and cheering and dancing, this crowd seemed like they were more knowledgeable of the lyrics and singing along and were not as eager to be standing up all the time, most of the show we remained seated, which was ok because I am too short to see properly when everyone stands up at their seats! And funny, the second crowd didn’t cheer for Prince to come out, they just waited patiently for him to come, like I said, different people, different vibe.

Prince’s silhouette appeared again at the start of the show, this time in a yellow hue. He came out and everyone applauded ad cheered and then I geared myself for show #2 at 10pm. He began the same robotic voice into and went into “Joy In Repetition” and “Girl”, then the version of “U Got The Look”. I was happy to see him again but of course some of the songs he would sing would be repeats of the ones he sang at the previous show. But I was still very glad to be there!

Then I got so excited, he sang “Do me, baby” and again I was shocked that he would sing such a suggestive song! It was so amazing to hear and see! Then I was happy to hear “I Wanna Be Your Lover”. This was great! Different show, different setlist!

Then some of the same, “Elephants & Flowers”, “I Feel For U”. I joined in again to help sing “Controversy” Second time around it still as much fun!!! Then “I would Die 4 U”, “Baby I’m a Star” “The Ballad of Dorothy Parker / 4”. And then everyone had a riot singing “Cream”! Even my husband seemed to be enjoying that song. After that Prince exited stage and we cheered and applauded, encouraging him to return!

He came back out and sang a very emotional sounding “Eye Love U But I Don’t Trust U Anymore”. Then “Take Me With U”, “Raspberry Beret”, “Starfish & Coffee”, “How Come U Don’t Call Me Anymore” (Where he had us, his “choir” as he called us, chanting out the hook of the song while he sang), “Waiting in Vain / If I Was Your Girlfriend”. A lot of the same stuff but like I said, just as good the second time around!

Then a very cool rendition of “Black Sweat” which was fun because the normal version of that song is an R&B synthesizer jam but to hear it broken down into a piano jam is very amazing and interesting. Then my jam, “Kiss” was great even 2 times. He left again after that but we knew it couldn’t over! The lights hadn’t turned on. Who knows how long this show can go on, no time restrictions supposedly, but who knows the venue’s policies.

He came back and sang us “Nothing Compares 2 U” and that was great! But then I think he left again or maybe he didn’t but when he started up again he did something I didn’t know he was going to do! His special piano was loaded with audio clips and sound effects and he proceeded to play the beat of “When Doves Cry” and sang that, what a treat!!!! I loved it!!! Then “Hot Thing”, “Sign ‘O The Times”… this was great! Highly unexpected! Then there was the famous “Purple Rain” and everyone was so happy. When It ended, that was it!!! I guess the place has some time restrictions! Oh well, I would be headed out to the after party anyway!

After we began clearing out of the theatre I was shocked that they announced the information about the afterparty over the loud speaker…. well then it must be happening! We exited the theatre and then I began getting directions on my phone on how to get to Club Muzique where the after party would be taking place. I decided that we would walk there because I had my car paid and parked at Place des Arts and wasn’t sure what parking would be like if I moved the car. We exited the building onto the street around 12:15am and my GPS said that it should be about an 18 minute walk away. We began our walk to the club. The streets were pretty empty, with it being a Monday evening… who goes clubbing on a Monday night!!?? We walked and walked until we found the spot and got into line. The line up wasn’t very big and we were in line and it was moving inside slowly but more people were arriving behind us and the line was growing. Funny thing about the after party is that it was announced to begin at 10pm until 3am but seeing as how Prince was playing the second show at 10pm I doubt that anything would be missed out by showing up around 12:30. I know Prince wouldn’t show up right away and I didn’t even know if he would show up at all but anyways… who knows! That’s the magic of the mystery! We got in and right away they wanted us to check in our coats and cell phones!!! Very interesting strategy. I respect the rules, no problem! After checking the coats we went up to get in. The cover charge was $25 a person and then I knew from seeing what they had previously said that if it was cheaper there would be no performance :(
Oh well… who knows what will happen? Never know if you don’t go!

We paid and got in and then waited around for a long while. The club started really getting tightly packed and I spent the entire time wondering where the best place to stand would be… who knows. I tried inching my way to the front of the crowd but I didn’t try going all the way to the front because I am not pushy enough for this stuff! I spent my time at the front of the DJ booth rocking out to the old skool jams that Prince’s DJ Pam the Funkstress (The tour DJ) was spinning. I gripped onto the railing of the DJ booth for dear life, trying to secure my spot and meanwhile my feet are killing because I am in my high heel wedge boots and my feet are dying. We waited and waited and waited and wondered and I didn’t even know if anything would even happen but I needed to see for myself. Around 2:45am I guess (someone who had a watch said it to their friend and I overheard) the bouncers all started pushing on us and telling us to stop holding on to the DJ booth and leaning on it and they are saying “Move back, move back!” and I am saying hmmmm….. because I am like…. what is going on??? Well believe it or not, they were beginning to clear a path for Prince to walk though as he enters the club….. WHAT? he was going to walk through the club??!!!?!?!!? I was at the forefront of the path that he would be crossing…… PRINCE WAS GOING TO WALK RIGHT PAST ME??? INCHES AWAY FROM ME??? I began having heart palpitations!!! You better believe it!!! Omg this was crazy stuff happening here! I contemplated trying to touch his arm but they were quick to dismiss the idea as the bouncers announced please no touching Prince. Ok, I would respect his wishes :(

We waiting about 15 minutes in desperation, my heart beating out of my chest. Waiting for the moment that he would pass in front of me. At 3am he emerged and quickly with many bodyguards surrounding, HE WALKED RIGHT PAST ME!!! ME???!!! I had definitely somehow inherited the right spot in the club that night for that particular moment….. Prince was an actual human being walking in front of me… not just the superhuman on a pedestal that we’ve always seen!!! This was a dream come true! Patience is a virtue! He whizzed by and went up to the DJ booth to begin saying hello to us and speaking a bit. I was a little upset because a humongous bouncer insisted on standing in front of me, completely blocking my view, it was like standing behind a wall of man! I saw bits and pieces of Prince. He spoke briefly and then said now that he has just arrived he needs to go get something and he will return in 15 minutes…. What!!??? The crowed booed and he said “What? You don’t want me to go? You don’t think I will come back? I promise I will come back in 15 minutes and you will be very happy when I come back, I have a surprise” it’s not a direct quote but it is something along those lines that he said. So we all sighed and he proceeded to walk right past me again as he walked out the path he came in on. As he passed me I squealed “I love you!!!!!!!!” sad to see him go.

We waited again and of course everyone started shifting their position trying to get closer to the “stage” area (It was some sort of blocked off VIP Section with some sort of small block stage I guess, couldn’t really see too well). We knew he was going to walk through the crowd again the same way he did before and we were getting excited. Like I said, everyone had shifted around a lot trying to get to the front and I kind of lost my place that I had before. I was trying to wedge myself in between a super tall guy and this other girl and she was getting mad at me but I didn’t care. They wheeled in a trunk that obviously contained Prince’s keyboard inside! And then they set it up. Prince came back in 15 minutes as he said and passed through us again! He went right to the stage area and then everyone really started cramming to the front of the area, everyone was pushing and shoving trying to get closer somehow. I could hardly see anything! I didn’t even know where Prince was or which area to look. As he spoke I scanned the area, confused as to where I was supposed to be looking. I thought he was far away in the back of the room. Then after a while I realized he was on the block stage about 10 feet in front of me!!!!!!!!!!! Wow this was something special. He started up the synthesizer music to his song “D.M.S.R” and began to perform!!! What a treat! People were really cramming each other I was packed in tightly between everyone, I could barely move an inch. Also it was super hot and everyone was sweaty… ew… It was a bit claustrophobic because I am so short so I could barely see above all the other heads. I kept trying to peek through gaps between heads. I saw glimpses of him here and there but anyways I still had a great time, he also played “Sign ‘O The Times”, “Alphabet Street”, “Hot Thing” and “Housequake”, “A Love Bizarre” and some samples of “Darling Nikki”, “The X’s Face”, “The Most Beautiful Girl In The World” and “Nasty Girl” (Where he asked the audience if there are any nasty girls in the club who wanna dance and I jumped up and down pointing at myself repeatedly, but I guess it was only a rhetorical question aww!!!). We were packed in like sardines but we had a blast! He must have played only about half an hour tops but it was amazing and worth it! Who would have thought… a Prince performance for $25!!!??? After that he said he really didn’t want to leave but he had a plane to catch and that he had to go home. He packed up his stuff and with that he passed through us one last time and that was it!!! We had been graced by royalty for a small time. What a night!

These are not my pictures but I found them online.

Prince at the Bell Centre May 23, 2015

Hey, long time no chat! I want to take this opportunity to recount last night's concert experience.

It all started Wednesday evening when I was sitting at the kitchen table after dinner, relaxing on the phone browsing Facebook. Now I knew that Prince had played a surprise show in Toronto just the day before so I had high hopes that he might come to Montreal again but you never know. As I'm scrolling on Facebook I see something that makes my heart stop!

It was this

So I read the article and my heart is pounding in my chest and I am hyperventilating and then find another similar article that makes it seem even more plausible.

I start chanting "OMG OMG OMG OMG" over and over again and run upstairs to my boyfriend, weak in the knees, and show him the headline of the article I had just seen. He reads it, looks at me, and then says "Ok so..?" He is not a fan but I usually drag him along for my adventures so he knows he is stuck going with me.

It is crazy because I have been praying to God to see Prince again live since the last times I saw his shows! It is my dream to see him perform as much as possible but unfortunately I am not able to travel anywhere far for lack of time away for work or money to spend. So I am only able to see him if he plays here.

So with my prayers answered all there was left to do was to wait until 12:00 noon the next day when they said the tickets would go on sale. I was so excited I could barely sleep. The next day, Thursday I went into work and counted the minutes until it would be noon. I was very anxious and scared because I would prefer to do a transaction like this using my computer and not just my iPhone, you never know if it will load properly on there. At a quarter to noon I checked the ticket website out of curiosity and it said that they were available to buy already! Wow! So I press the button and of course they are not ready to buy just yet. I was then placed into a virtual waiting room and it told me to wait my turn to buy the tickets when they would come on sale. I waited and waited, wondering if it would even work. Then at noon it said that it would shortly be my turn! At 12:02 the page refreshed into the buying page and it was finally my turn! The only problem was.... there was no seating chart to see! I am pretty certain that this was because I was doing the transaction on my phone, but this was ridiculous. I wanted the best seats possible but I had no idea what the stage or layout even looked like. It kept offering me random seats around the venue but numbers are kind of meaningless when you don't know where they are located. So I started freaking out because in my hesitance to pick a seat right away in hopes of finding a floor plan on google, it was already 12:20 and I hadn't bought anything yet! Well you never know with a Prince concert, I have heard of them selling out in 5 minutes so I didn't want to take a chance and have nothing! Sometimes I was refreshing seats and it was saying "Sold out" so I started panicking and my coworker told me... "Just take anything at this point or you are going to end up with nothing at all!!!" So I freaked out and agreed that she was right and on my next refresh of seats I got "Section - North - A - 1-2" and that seemed to sound like good seats and they were better sounding than any others I had been encountering so I said whatever and bought them! Having spent a lot of money on these tickets and having no clue where they were I was freaking out. I had really wanted the standing floor section but it had told me it was sold out already so too bad for me. The rest of the day I worried and worried and when I got home I finally checked on my computer and saw the layout and deducted that I probably had good floor seats in the front row (even though I wished I had standing floor seats, oh well).

In the next days I was was so excited I could barely sleep or eat or think of anything else. Friday night I prepared all of my clothing and belongings for Saturday because I would go to the concert straight from work.

Saturday I worked and worked and the day passed at an average pace. Everyone who I told that I was going to the concert was so jealous and excited for me but I knew a lot of people wanted to go but couldn't go because of prior engagements. The only bummer is that when I checked the ticket sales again before the show they had opened up more tickets (as they usually do I guess) and floor standing tickets were available again..... oh well I couldn't wait until last minute.

At the end of the day Saturday I changed into my concert outfit, did my hair and makeup and went to pick up my boyfriend from his work. We got some burgers on the go and then off we were at around 5:30 we left. We arrived around 6 to the parking lot and scarfed down our burgers. Then we went on to the metro which would take us to the venue. We arrived at the venue around 6:20 and were very confused as to where we were supposed to wait to get in. There were hardly any people around the area and my boyfriend even questioned if there was really a concert or did I get my days mixed up!!! Now way. They were doing a lot of construction on the site so the usual door we take was blocked off so we went outside and all around until we got to the outside front entrance and began to wait there until 7 when the doors would open. There was a van from the local radio station parked across the street blasting famous Prince songs one after another. I was so excited I couldn't wait!!!

At 7pm the doors opened and I rushed over to the gift shop to see what they had. I got a poster for $10 but that was all. All the T-shirts were going at $40 and that is too steep for me!

We went into the theater to find our seats and the first guard says they are on the floor which is great so I am happy for that. Then the next guard shows us where they are and unfortunately seats A-1-2 are the beginning of the row, not the center so rather than being in the middle of the stage they are on the far side!!! Uh oh! I was very upset and disappointed. But what can you do... at least we were first row. Now when we had taken our seats the guard had put gray bracelets around our wrists. We didn't think much of it. I was so upset that I wasn't in the "pit" which was what the standing section on the floor in front of the stage was called. It was not fair! Everyone kept entering the pit with their pit tickets and I was reduced to sitting in the far corner just feet away. There was a dividing fence that separated that section from ours and I was just so close yet so far with only a fence dividing us. The kicker for me is that we were so early to arrive that if I had those tickets we would have definitely been able to stand right in front :(

During the waiting period as we sit in our funny corner seats, I decide to make conversation with my boyfriend to pass the time along (seeing as how we aren't allowed on our phones). I keep complaining that it is not fair for us and can we ask the guard if we can change places... and then I justify it by explaining that maybe if I am close to Prince he will somehow make eye contact with me and we will fall in love??? Ok well my boyfriend wasn't buying that reason even though I told him that he could still live with me and Prince in our mansion........

Suddenly, I hear a guard explaining to someone near us why he is giving them their gray bracelet. He is saying that with this bracelet that is only given to people in row A and B you are allowed to stand up along the fence that is dividing the pit. My eyes opened up wide when I heard this! I asked the guard "Excuse me, you say that I am allowed to stand up against the fence?" He says "Yeah" and then I say "Even over there?" as I point to the middle and he says "Yeah" so now my troubles are somewhat solved!!! Instead of viewing from the far corner, now we were able to stand closer to the middle of the stage. Without hesitation we immediately got up from our corner seats and stood our ground at the almost middle of the stage (more to the left than middle but oh well) I was relieved and my disappointment disappeared.

Now the show was supposed to start at 8pm but who actually starts their show on time!? We waited and waited and waited and then finally maybe after 20-30 minutes.... the intro started!!!

The stage was veiled with a purple drop curtain but the musical intro to the concert began and was slightly back lit so you could see the outline of the one and only, legendary.... Prince!!! I turned and smiled brightly at my boyfriend and squeezed his hand.... "OMG!!!" and he rolled his eyes at me.

After the nice light/shadow show with the curtain down, finally the curtain came up and there he was! Prince in the flesh, maybe 20 feet away from us, he was so amazing in all his glory!!!!! Hahahaha...
I was very happy and there was nowhere else in the world that I would rather be at that moment. Prince opened the show with his girl group trio 3rd Eye Girl and they played a bunch of their new songs from their CD "Plectrumelectrum" starting with "WOW". These girls next to us began chatting and asking eachother "Is this a new song or an old song???" and none of them knew and I felt like telling them flat out but I held my tongue. Then there was "Funknroll" then "Guitar" and "Plectrumelectrum" itself. It was a very rock oriented set and very exciting to see live. Then they played a slowed down revamped version of "Let's Go Crazy" and then from the movie Purple Rain the love theme "Take Me With U".

Then there was the classic hit "Raspberry Beret" which got us all singing along, "U Got The Look" and then a blend of "Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough" and "Cool" had us all dancing and singing.

Then it got mellow when Prince went to the piano to deliver "The Breakdown" which is a new slow ballad that he sang so well that it was comparable to the album version... man he can sing when you can't even tell the difference from live or recording.

Then they left to take a break and everyone chanted until their return. Upon the return Prince said that he would try to make the first time Prince concert goers feel welcome by playing some of the big hits. On the sound machine mixer thing he began a simple "When Doves Cry" singing along to the beat and asking the crowd to help fill in the words. Then he played "Sign 'o' the Times" and then began "Hot Thing" where a bodyguard started selecting people from the pit to go up and dance on stage!!! I was so disappointed because I wanted to go up on stage! I am such a fan and it would be a dream to be so close to my idol. I might have had a chance if I had tickets in the pit. So I watched the whole bit with a heavy heart. A guy who had gotten on the stage got his phone taken away by the guard because he was trying to snap pics while up there and there was a strict no camera or phone policy that you had to abide by.

After a bit of that, they escorted all the people off the stage and back down to their places. Then began "Controversy" and then the famous "1999". With that Prince bid us all goodbye!!! Show was over??? No way! Prince has this thing where he likes to pretend that the show is over and make you all chant and go wild with anticipation, wondering if it is really over so soon or if more will come. I think it is also an ego boost to see if they will beg for more or not. And of course the other thing is that he wants to see the mood of the crowd, if they are feeling it or not. I have heard that if he has a crowd that is not really into it, he will just cut it short and go home but if the crowd is overly joyed and begging and screaming for more then he is known to keep giving them what they want and play for hours more until they aren't as active.

After a couple minutes of waiting, sure enough Prince re-emerges and goes onto the piano to begin singing ballads. He started a bit of "Diamonds and Pearls" but not very much of it and then went into "How Come You Don't Call Me Anymore". Just piano and voice, very nice. Then "The Beautiful ones"... and a bit of "Forever In My Life".

After that he abandoned the piano for a slowed down, sexy version of "Little Red Corvette" which was extended into a mellow rythym and Prince crooning "Slow down...." over and over. After that atmosphere dissipated, Prince belted out a nice version of "Nothing Compares 2 U" which was a song he originally wrote, but was made famous by singer Sinead O'Connor later on. It had those same girls from before that were next to me questioning "I don't think that's his song! No way that's not his song, he's just singing it now." I wanted to turn around and say, "Hey get your facts straight! He wrote this song actually!" But I didn't feel like getting involved.

Then things got funky when Prince broke into the very famous "Kiss" which had everyone shaking and grinding along to the funky beat. At the end of the song Prince bid us farewell yet again, but we were no fools! We knew he hadn't yet played his famous hit "Purple Rain" and he usually always plays that! We shouted and begged for a while until Prince came out and they played an unusual choice of song "There Sweeter He Is" a cover of a 1969 song... but that's ok. Because then he played the very famous hit that we were all waiting for... "Purple Rain" !!!

It was very magical to see and hear this performance. It has all of the same energy and emotion as it did in the famous scene in the movie. And funny enough even though he must have played it thousands of times now, he still sings it with similar feeling. It was amazing to see everyone just caught up in the moment, it is a very sad and beautiful song and everyone was just swaying along to the music and singing and waving their hands, just the same as in the movie. It's just a song that takes you back into that moment and it is a very special thing to be caught up in. Some part through the song... purple confetti just rains down upon us, unexpectedly, and it is like a dream! What a special moment that makes you just say "wow!" and be thankful to be in that time and moment. Such a wonderful memory. Everyone just looking up and seeing this beautiful "purple rain" coming down over you and it going everywhere and in your hair and clothes and then everyone looking at eachother in amazement, like "is this for real!!!???" but it was just so perfect. With that, Prince bowed out and left us telling us "Thank you" and that he loves us.

But after such a thrilling, energetic performance, could we really just call it quits and go home??? No way!!! We were greedy and wanted MORE! So we shouted and screamed and clapped and chanted and banged and sang for probably 10 minutes straight and even though it looked as though no one was coming back everyone still went at it. It was mind blowing, this reaction. I hope Prince knew how much we loved him!

Finally, they all came back and played "Mountains" what a treat, I never heard that live before. Brings me back to when he sings it in his movie "Under The Cherry Moon". Then they began "Play That Funky Music" a popular cover song and it really got the crowd going!!! Then the next song beat began, it was "The Dance Electric" and to everyone's shock, Prince surprised us all with a very peculiar request. He asked us all to take out our cell phones... was this a joke? It was kind of weird with the strict no cell phones and cameras rule, but hey if he wanted us to take them out then we will take them out! He wanted them out so we could shine our lights and light up the place, kind of like a modern version of when they used to wave the lighters around. Well with everyone taking their phones out I decided to seize the moment and take a video... they can't catch us all!!! Lots of people were doing it. So luckily I got a nice video for my memories but I didn't want to push my luck. I pretty much assumed that the cells would only be tolerated for the one song so as "Housequake" began I put my phone away because I would rather have 1 video that to push my luck and have my phone confiscated. The girl next to me tried to take a picture but quickly a security guard came over so fast to tell her no photos allowed. I knew it! LOL.

Then they went into "I Would Die 4 U" and that was just wonderful too, took us back to the Purple Rain movie where he performs it at the end. But of course when he decided to say goodbye this time, we somehow knew it would be goodbye for good. He put on an incredible 2 and a half hour show, a real top effort. And even though we wanted more it was 11:00pm and Prince and the band were probably tired. When the lights came on we knew it was really over and it was ok because all the great songs were covered and you kind of feel satisfied with the result. Some people were staying around in hopes that there would be more but most of the Bell Centre began slowly clearing out.

I began my task of gathering as much confetti off the floor as I possibly could without people thinking I'm crazy. I got a good handful at least for my collection. I might put it in a jar or frame it, who knows yet. It was tricky to get a lot because most of it got dirty on the floor, getting stepped on and poured drinks on but I got a good amount, I think. I still have the confetti I got from the last show and it is framed on the wall with my tickets. Unfortunately I don't have real tickets for this show as they were e-tickets, oh well.

All in all, it was an amazing night of my life and quite the experience. It was my 3rd time seeing Prince and I would see him every day if I could. There was no place that I would rather be than right there with Prince and his band up close and in the flesh. I loved every moment of it and will always see him every chance I get. Even though we didn't get to make eye contact or fall in love, I am forever a die hard fan!!!

Now Prince... when are you coming back next!!!??? Don't make me wait another 4 years... ugh!

Prince Apologises For Damaging The Roots Star's Guitar During Tv Set

via contactmusic.com

"Prince stunned fans during an appearance on U.S. chat show Late Night With Jimmy Fallon on Friday (01Mar13) by throwing his guitar to the ground after his performance. The Purple Rain hitmaker had borrowed The Roots' bandmember 'Captain' Kirk Douglas' guitar for his performance of new track Bambi, but instead of handing it back to the musician, he removed the cream guitar from around his neck and tossed it on the floor before walking off stage without a word. Douglas' shocked bandmate Questlove took to Twitter.com after the incident and wrote, "rip to @CaptainKDouglas's Guitar 2009-2011 #Prince"

"The enigmatic Purple Rain hitmaker asked to borrow Douglas' 1961 Epiphone Crestwood ax for his two-song performance on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon and threw the instrument to the ground before walking off the set.
Douglas, the guitarist in Fallon's house band The Roots, has since posted a photo of the broken guitar on Twitter.com, writing, "Maybe it's because I'm a dad but I think framing the guitar is a little like rewarding bad behavior."
However, he assured fans that Prince is making amends for smashing the guitar. He writes, "His people reached out and made arrangements to take care of damages. Guitar's in the shop."
Ironically, Douglas will be performing as part of a Prince tribute concert, which is scheduled to take place at Carnegie Hall in New York on Thursday night (07Mar13)."

30 movies

Well this is a 30 day movie quiz that I got online but rather than spreading it over 30 days I decided to do them all in 1 post. Feel free to try to answer the questions for yourself on your blogs or pages!

01 - Your favorite movie
Purple Rain
Now it must sound funny when I say that this is my favorite movie when there are so many great movies out there but when I think of all the movies I have ever seen and whether I would rather watch them or Purple Rain, the answer remains clear. I can watch this movie over and over again and I always enjoy it. It is actually a pretty decent movie and an important part of today's pop culture. It inspired many people from it's fashion to it's style of how it was filmed as a concert movie. Always my favorite in my heart. The best was when I bought it on Blu-Ray and saw the improved quality :)

02 - The last movie you watched
The Beach
It was on tv and we decided to watch it. Actually I have never seen it before! I enjoy watching Leonardo DiCaprio in movies because he is a great actor so I knew it would be good. Well it was a pretty intense movie, I'll admit that!

03 - Your favorite action/adventure movie
The Pirates of the Caribbean series
Even though I fell in love with this series of films back in 2004 when the first one came out, I have to stay true to my old favorites. They will always have a place in my heart.

04 - Your favorite horror movie
The Saw Series
Well I am a big fan of horror movies, it is one of my favorite genres to watch. And Saw is my favorite above all... the most gory and gruesome stuff you could ever imagine.

05 - Your favorite drama movie
Titanic
This was kind of a hard one because I'm not really drawn to drama movies but I guess Titanic is a Romance/Drama... one of the best and it will remain timeless. I saw it in 1998 with my mom when she dragged me to see it with her when it first came out. And then I saw it in 3D in April 2012 for the 100 year anniversary of the sinking and the movie did not look aged or anything, it looked just as good as the movies they put out now.

06 - Your favorite comedy movie
Austin Powers 3 - Goldmember
I enjoy all 3 Austin Powers movies (and hope for more in the future) but out of all of them, the third one "Goldmember" stands out from the bunch. It is just so funny. The first time I saw it I almost peed myself laughing so hard at some of the gags in the film.

07 - A movie that makes you happy
The 40 Year Old Virgin
What a funny movie. I still laugh at all the jokes every time I see the movie.

08 - A movie that makes you sad
Changeling
I think I first caught this movie on tv. I had vaguely heard about it but, man... what a sad story and a true one, at that. The true story of a mother who searches for her missing son and then is reunited with him finally....... but it's not him. So she is deemed crazy and placed in a mental institution! What a tear jerker!

09 - A movie that you know practically the whole script
Secret Window
When I was in high school I had a crazy obsession for Johnny Depp and all of his movies. My friend and I took it upon ourselves to begin memorizing the scripts of Pirates of the Caribbean and Secret Window because we had the bright idea of finding a camera, a cast, and costumes in order to record our own version of the film... I think we ended up with a cast but the problem of finding a video camera back in that day was the real problem! So it never ended up happening... oh well! Would have been fun.

10 - A Movie from your childhood
Aladdin
When I was a kid, the big Disney movies came out on video cassette tapes in huge boxes and it cost around $30 for one. My mother would buy me one of those every year for my birthday. She bought me Pinocchio, Cinderella, Beauty And The Beast, Aladdin, and some others. Of all those movies I had, I seemed to enjoy Aladdin the most. I still have those special VHS tapes around!

11 - Your favorite movie from your childhood
The Wizard Of Oz
When I was a kid, every year around a certain time, they would play The Wizard Of Oz on TV and I would always look forward to it. It was such a magical movie and so whimsical, how could any kid resist? I still enjoy watching it today.

12 - Your favorite animated movie
Beauty And The Beast
I don't normally watch too many animated movies but this is one from my childhood that is an important movie because it gives a good lesson about life and I always cry at the end when they break the curse and he turns into a prince... so heartwarming!

13 - A movie that you used to love but now hate
Avatar
Ok so Avatar seemed like the best movie ever with all the hype it had been given and the fact that it took so long to develop the right technology to make it. I went to see the movie with a friend when it was in theaters. We saw it in IMAX 3D and paid a good $20 to see it and wear those dumb goggles for a whole 3 hours with a headache forming as the movie carried on. I'll admit, I thoroughly enjoyed it at the time. It was great and really beautiful with a good storyline. The 3D effects were beyond belief, with things jutting out at you and feeling like you could almost touch the flowers and other scenery. It was a great movie to see 3D. Now after all the hype and everything, you take that same movie and you bring it to your home to watch on your normal TV... the movie loses all of it's charm. Rather than being an amazing experience, it becomes a boring 3 hour long movie with nothing special to it. Some movies are just better with the whole theater experience.

14 - Your favorite quote from any movie
From Titanic - "I'll never let go, Jack. I'll never let go."
And then shortly after, she peels his dead hand off of hers...
I think it's a pretty big quote in the movie world and it has been parodied to death. It is a sad moment and I always cry a bit when Rose is begging a frozen Jack to wake up but it is clear that he is no longer living. So she lets go physically but never mentally and that is shown later when she takes his last name as her own, never letting go. The big question though is... why couldn't they just pile together on the raft... there really was enough room so I don't understand why he floated in the water alongside the raft when he could have just lay on top of her or something. I think that using their body heat together like that would have benefited the both of them but hey, I guess Jack had to die for the sake of the storyline.

15 - The first movie you saw in theaters
Air Bud
Well I mean, what else are you going to let a kid see?

16 - The last movie you saw in theaters
Django Unchained
Very good movie even though it was 3 hours long!

17 - The best movie you saw during the last year
Skyfall
No doubt about it, I am now a full fledged Bond fan after this movie. I had admired the Bond Franchise before when I had first seen Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace but Skyfall is the one that has actually pushed me to catch up and watch all the Bond movies from the beginning. It was so action packed and exciting that it made me want more Bond... can't wait to see what's in store for the next Bond film.

18 - A movie that disappointed you the most
Magic Mike
So I read about this movie a couple of months before it came out, reading interviews with Matthew Mcconaughey about what it was like to "bare all" and whatnot. So I'm getting a little bit interested but not to the point of seeing it in theaters. Then people are saying "omg you have to see this movie! There's naked guys!!!" so I say ok let's go see some naked guys. We go see the movie... it is long, it is boring, there is not much of a story line and it was hard to get into it at first. Then I was finally getting into the movie and out of nowhere it ends all of a sudden with a very open ending, leaving me to ask "huh!?"
And on top of it all, there was NO nudity!!! Not that I really want to see any nudity but I went to see it on account that I had been promised that there would be and I felt that I had been lied to. Well what a waste of time. I am shocked that so many people enjoyed the movie and say that it is a good film. I guess they are very desperate to see anything they can.

19 - Your favorite actor
Johnny Depp
It's a close call because I also very much enjoy Gerard Butler's acting as well but I have to stay true to Johnny Depp because I think he was my first real celebrity guy crush and I still have interest in seeing his movies. Maybe there is no intense obsession like before but I still admire him as an actor.

20 - Your favorite actress
Angelina Jolie
I don't follow very many actresses as much as I do actors because I can crush on actors and not actresses but I do like Angelina Jolie and I think she is a very good actress and very beautiful.

21 - The most overrated movie
Twilight
I've never seen the movies so maybe I shouldn't judge. But I am pretty sure they are overrated.

22 - The most underrated movie
There's Something About Mary
I just caught this on tv recently. It's been a while since I had seen it but oh man, is this a great movie or what! It is just so good. They don't make great movies like that anymore. That have such great story lines yet are so simple at the same time. I think it's a classic!

23 - Your favorite character from any movie
Austin Powers
He's the best character because he is so funny and Mike Myers plays him so well. Also it's fun because he's based off of James Bond so that's a bonus too. Plus the character has credibility because he has lasted for a span of 3 movies which is longer than most characters out there who have only been played for 1 or 2 films. And he's been in music videos!

24 - Favorite documentary
Supersize Me
Of course I don't watch many documentaries... who does? This one came on TV and I was really interested to see it because of all the hype it got when it was in theaters. Wow what a crazy guy for doing that to his body for the sake of his film. However it is a good lesson for people out there who are eating Mcdonald's all the time.

25 - A movie that no one would expect you to love
Showgirls
My boyfriend had this movie and one day I was bored and decided to watch it and it was a really great movie. When I told him I like the movie he was shocked because there is a lot of nudity in the movie and he thought I wouldn't like it but the story is great.

26 - A movie that is a guilty pleasure
Dumb and Dumber
I like watching this movie whenever it comes on TV. It is actually a pretty good movie that doesn't get the respect it deserves. Another classic!

27 - Favorite classic movie
An American in Paris
I really respect Gene Kelly's work. He was a great dancer and a good actor. I like classic stuff like this movie. There's a lot of beautiful dance routines that speak more than words when you are trying to convey an emotion in a movie.

28 - Movie with the best soundtrack
Sweeney Todd
The songs are just so catchy that I couldn't help but love the soundtrack. I can watch this movie over and over again.

29 - A movie that changed your opinion about something
Click
Even though it's a comedy movie by Adam Sandler it still gives out an important message... it showed that sometimes it might be tempting to go through life as quickly as possible, ignoring the people and things that you love and not taking the time to appreciate life and what is around you. But it is more important to live each day to the fullest because time goes too fast already as it is, so it is important to cherish every moment even if it is boring or annoying. You only get so much time and then before you know it, everything is gone and so are you.

30 - You least favorite movie
The Tourist
Wow this movie looked very promising in the trailers and commercials! 2 big movie names, Johnny Depp and Angelina Jolie! My favorites finally are in a movie together, couldn't get any better than this, right!? Wrong! Terrible storyline, terrible script, terrible movie! What a shame to give 2 great actors like that a script that goes nowhere and boring and underdeveloped characters to play. And the ending was just like a WTF moment. For the sake of their careers, the only good thing is that it's a very forgettable movie.... but I regret that I own it!
