Exclusive: Prince & Lady Gaga May Contribute New Songs To Baz Luhrmann's 'The Great Gatsby'

Article.

"Eyebrows were raised when "The Great Gatsby" was removed from its late-December release, rescheduled for next spring. The Baz Luhrmann picture was just one of many Warner Bros. films possibly angling for Oscar nominations, but with a crowded slate, and the difficulty in securing a large percentage of 3D screens, it seemed doubtful that the F. Scott Fitzgerald would be a Christmas gift to viewers. But could it be that, with a new May 10, 2013 date, Luhrmann's film is using that time to spruce up the soundtrack?

Speaking with Adelaide Clemens during press rounds for "Silent Hill 3D: Revelation," she took a moment to discuss her role as Catherine in the Fitzgerald adaptation, revealing that "The Great Gatsby" may be getting some heavy-duty firepower added to its soundtrack. "They have some new music that's going to be added to the film," Clemens said. "Some pretty huge artists have approached Baz and are writing songs for the film, and I don't think Warner Bros. are going to turn down Prince and Lady Gaga knocking down your door." She confirmed she was referring to the Prince and the Lady Gaga, demurring, "I don't know if I'm allowed to say that."

While we'll have to wait and see if those artists make the final cut or deliver tracks in time, it does seem like the potential creative choice for someone like Luhrmann, a filmmaker with an audacious taste for contemporary pop music. Prince is no stranger to soundtracks, though he hasn't contributed to a film with new material since 2006's "Happy Feet." However this would be the first film to feature wholly original Lady Gaga tunes. Could it possibly be a superstar collaboration? Clemens also made sure to tease further, ending her comments with "to name a few," suggesting perhaps many more popular artists would be providing the film with a pop-music soundscape.

So keep your ears open when "The Great Gatsby" hits in 2013."
