Review of Django Unchained

We tried to see the new movie "Django Unchained" last week on the 1st of January but ended up walking right out before it began on account of there only being first row seats left. There would be no way I would sit in the front row. I saw Quantum of Solace when it was out in 2008 in the first row and until I saw it on TV recently I had no idea what had happened in the movie. I don't even understand why theaters have seats that close to the screen to begin with! But anyways, my boyfriend really wanted to see the movie and I had heard it was very good so we decided to give it another try and we went to see it today. We went to the first showing they had that was at 12:35 so I didn't think it would be too packed. We got seats right on the second to the last row in thee back and we were right in the middle. Great seats, worth the wait. I was so comfortable the whole time especially since no one sat next to me so I had loads of space to stretch out and put my stuff around.

Now about the movie! The movie takes place in Southern United States in the 1800's right before the civil war. It is a story about African American Slavery. It started out very good with a nice old fashioned sounding Django theme song. I liked the old fashioned feel that the song had. It was perfect to set the mood. The action was very quick to start, with Django, an African American slave, being freed by a mysterious man claiming to be a dentist in the middle of the night. The man is Dr. King Schultz who is really a bounty hunter. He takes Django under his wing in hopes of finding some wanted men that Django would recognize because he did not know what they looked like himself, also Django tells him of his wife who he was separated from and wishes to recover. After finding the men Schultz is after, he asks Django to continue with him and decides to help him recover his lost wife. It is a strange sight to see for most people they encounter, as Django is allowed to do everything that an African American would normally not be allowed to do at that time in history. They find out where she is and construct a plan to get her back from the people who have her. The man who has her is Calvin Candie, a very rich man with lots of land and lots of property. As the plan is rolling along smoothly they almost have her but one of Candie's confidantes figures out what Schultz and Django are after and informs Candie, ruining the whole deal. After a bit of trouble, they manage to finally come to an agreement and it seems as if they have succeeded. To seal the deal, Candie demands that Schultz go shake his hand as to follow with Southern tradition, yet Schultz is very hostile towards Candie and refuses. What is such a simple request from Candie is blown out of proportion by Schultz so much, to the effect of Schultz actually shooting Candie in the chest rather than being forced to shake his hand. After this turn of events Django is in big trouble because Candie's men shoot down Schultz, killing him, and then begin to turn fire to Django and his wife. Django manages to shoot all of his attackers but then finds himself without anymore bullets and unable to get more from his hiding spot, he is trapped. He is forced to give himself up and then is sent to be tortured. It seems as though all is lost for Django. He is sent to his punishment but figures out an escape, goes back to Candie's villa, kills everyone who had wronged him, and finally gets his girl!

It was such a unique kind of movie and the story unfolded so perfectly with everything transitioning flawlessly. What a great storyline and series of events. Yet it makes you realize how hard life was in the 1800's and how they treated minorities.

I really liked the songs in the movie. They were very fitting. There were even rap songs in the movie, something you would never expect in this kind of film.

There was also great humorous moments in the movie. It is so different from most of the movies that are put out, especially in this kind of theme. Most movies in this theme are so dramatic and serious but this one took out a few moments to have a comedic side and kind of break up the tension that movies of this theme usually bring.

I swear that every single minute in the entire 3 hours of the movie's running length was interesting and action packed and I did not once look at the time or wonder when the movie was going to end, actually when it ended I was so upset, I wanted more!!!

When I walked out of the theater I turned to my boyfriend and said "Now that guy sure knows how to make a movie!!!" because Quentin Tarantino is so very talented and so ahead of the times when it comes to film making. He is just above par and raises the bar for other directors out there.

And also I'd like to mention that the actors of the movie are amazing too! Leonardo DiCaprio never fails and Jamie Foxx is great.

I definitely recommend this movie to anyone who enjoys a good storyline!
